Billy Bob Thornton Plans to Stick With Landman and Taylor Sheridan for Years
One of Taylor Sheridan’s many shows is getting a new series, and fans might feel both excited and a bit worried after hearing the latest from its star. Billy Bob Thornton, who plays old-school oilman Tommy Norris in Landman, says he’s hoping for a lot more of the show in the future, but he also shared a little about how Season 2 is coming along.
Billy Bob Thornton told Gold Derby that Landman is a show he wants to stick with. He told Taylor Sheridan, “As long as you want me here, I’m in.” He added that he enjoys the show, loves playing his character, and thinks both the cast and crew are fantastic.
Thornton enjoys working with Sheridan and the team on Landman and hopes to keep starring in the series for as long as he can.
“I’ll be there as long as they want me, and as long as I’m able. I mean, you know, when I was 35, I didn’t have to say that to someone who was interviewing me. But now the truth is at some point, I’m hoping it’s years from now, but there will be a time where I might have to do like a Peter Boyle on Everybody Loves Raymond, and just go sit in a chair and eat cake.”
Billy Bob Thornton Hasn’t Read All the Scripts for Landman Season 2, and No One Knows Why
Billy Bob Thornton is excited to keep making Landman well past Season 2. But he shared something interesting: he hasn’t seen all the scripts for Season 2 yet, which wasn’t the case for the first season. This is unusual for Taylor Sheridan, who’s known for planning everything carefully and following the script. That might leave some fans a bit uneasy.
“Last year we had every episode when we started. We do not this year. We’ve only seen about half of it. I can tell you this much. I’m loving this season, the relationships are really growing and gelling, not only as actors, but with the characters. The first season of anything, you’re explaining everything to everybody and the trick to writing things like that is to not make it seem like exposition, and I thought Taylor did a wonderful job of that in Season 1.”
Landman Season 2 is halfway through filming and will be back on Paramount+ this fall. We don’t know why Thornton hasn’t seen all the scripts yet — maybe things are still being worked out behind the scenes, or maybe Sheridan is keeping some plot details under wraps, even from the star himself.
Billy Bob Thornton is back for Landman Season 2, and this time, Demi Moore joins as a regular. Sam Elliott is also coming on board. The cast also includes Andy Garcia, Ali Larter, Jacob Lofland, Michelle Randolph, Paulina Chávez, Kayla Wallace, Mark Collie, James Jordan, and Colm Feore. The show was created by Taylor Sheridan and Christian Wallace, based on Wallace’s podcast Boomtown. You can read the official summary below.
“In the heart of Texas, roughnecks and billionaires try to get rich quick in the oil industry; Tommy Norris, a struggling executive, tries to take his company to the top during the fuel boom.”
